The Hour of Hope

It has been my great desire to do some good towards society. I look back and wonder in deep thought. What is my purpose in life? Life is not just about earning a good salary, having a plush job, having a family, or becoming well settled. There is a great deal more to life. For those of you who think I am crazy or am some 70 year old man looking for something to do after retirement, you are mistaken my friend. I am all of 27. Well you may think that I am stupid to have such thoughts at this age. But, I am proud to tell you that my desires are much greater than any of my peers.
During my college days, life went as usual. I had fun, learn to live away from home, made new friends, had my first drink, partied all night long with friends, brooded over a lost love-affair and the works. Yet, there was a sense of emptiness in me. A longing to know a deeper meaning to life. An insatiable thirst! But what can I do? How could I, an insignificant human being make a difference? The thought of making a difference might be commendable, but how would I actually bring these thoughts to action? Where would I start? These thoughts cloud my mind and I am in a complete sense of unrest. Leading a meaningful and happy life depends on our choices and our actions. And each day presents us with new opportunities to choose and to act accordingly.
College was a new world, a new beginning for me. I had made some very good friends. Of them all was Nilavu. A charming guy, a prankster, a wild and unruly chap yet, a gem at heart. We did so many things together. Though he was a day scholar, we somehow associated really well with each other. I unfortunately lost this precious friend in an accident. And the accident was such a miserable situation that people around did not want to help. The fear in the mind of the public that if you help an accident victim you are getting yourself into big trouble, is pitiable indeed. In my whole life I had never ever cried like this before. And from that day, something in me told me that I must do something for accident victims. The best thing I thought would make a difference is to educate people.
Yes, for an accident victim, every minute is precious. I just wished to tell everyone that the next time you ever come across a person lying hurt on the road due to an accident, don’t ignore and walk away. Instead, act immediately and think that God has presented to you a great opportunity to become that angel in someone’s life. Yes, the hour of hope, those last few precious moments for an accident victim are valuable indeed.
Saving a person’s life is the greatest service one can do towards mankind. I would encourage you to have a heart for the accident victims. Don’t walk away thinking that you would be in big trouble if you helped an accident victim. Be there for them. Give and it will come back to you in good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.
